West Lomond first snow walk

‘Lomonds’

This walk up the West Lomond was my first in snow, although there was more ice than snow. The track was treacherous due to all the snow compacted by people walking on it. It was solid ice by the time I went there. Since the walk I’ve managed to get a pair of ice grips for my boots as I had to walk at the side of the track rather than on it due to the ice. That slowed me dowm a lot which is evident from the stats. I also came down the peak of the hill the same way I went up. I figured that was the best option.

The following images show my walk, there are also 3 short videos. One on the way up the peak showing some bad weather heading my way from the direction of Lock Leven, another is a 360 degree at the summit and the final one is showing the weather arriving as I reach the bottom of the peak on the return leg. Another image is taken from the same spot showing a runner who sailed past me on the way up. She had ice grips on her trainers and managed to run where I could hardly walk!

When I came back down there were a lot of people just a few yards from the car park, mostly families out sledging. The final image shows what some had left behind. A really depressing sight. I don’t understand why people leave a mess like this behind them for someone else to clear up.
